Men's Conference
Feels good to get away from home, be with friends, and meet new people. I got the chance to do just that when I signed up for a men's conference being held at the Calvary Chapel in Saint George, Utah.
I attended the conference along with over fifty men from my home church, AwakenLV in Las Vegas. This also gave me the opportunity to visit with a friend I hadn't seen in many years, go on a hike with some of the men from my church, and camp out in my trailer, both at the conference and next to Lake Made on my way home.

Most of the men drove up Friday, attended the conference that night, stayed in a motel, attended all day Saturday till 3pm then drove back home to Vegas.
I chose to extend my trip on both ends. I arrived at the church on Thursday around 3pm. This gave me time to check out the facility, meet some of the people there, and find out where in their parking lot I could park my trailer. I then just hung out at my trailer that evening.
The next day, Friday morning, I visited my friend at the Southern Utah Practical Shoot Range. He just happened to be there pre-shooting a USPSA championship shooting match being held that weekend. It was nice to catch up with him and visit the range where I've shot many a match myself.
Next, I met up with some guys from my church and we went on a short hike in the Red Cliffs Recreational Area a little north of Saint George. There were picnic areas with shade trees, restrooms, and a well-worn path leading through some beautiful narrow red stone canyons with walls rising far above our heads. The hike was short and scenic. We then headed back to the church. By then two other men had showed up and parked their RV's next to my trailer.
The conference started around 6pm with a nice meal of barbequed burgers and dogs and everything you would expect to go with them. We then enjoyed a time of worship and teaching. That ended around 9pm. The three of us, staying in the parking lot, went to our little campsite. I brought out the propane campfire and we sat and enjoyed each other's company until we all got tired and went to bed.
Saturday morning started with a simple breakfast. We then had morning secessions followed by a lunch catered by a local Mexican restaurant, followed by the afternoon secessions. The conference ended around 3pm.
After visiting for a while, I hooked up my trailer, pulled out, gassed up, then headed south on I-15 toward home. But I didn't drive straight home. Instead, I turned off onto route 169 and continued heading south through the towns of Logandale and Overton. This road later turned into route 167 and continued running west with a view of Lake Mead in the distance.
I pulled off the road at a sign reading Stewarts Point and traveled east toward the lake to a dispersed camping area. I found a nice spot and stayed there for the evening. I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over Lake Mead then headed back out to 167 and continued the drive back home to Las Vegas.
Get out. Go places. Enjoy friends. See the sights and the open road. That's what off-roading, overlanding, camping is all about.
