ActionTrax Traction Boards
One item every person venturing off road should have in their vehicle are Traction Boards. Traction Boards can aid in self-recovery in the event that your vehicle gets stuck in soft sand, mud, or snow. There are many companies marketing a variety of traction boards. I did some research and purchased what I felt was a good product.
If you plan on doing any off road traveling at all, I highly recommend a set of traction boards. Even if only an inexpensive set. But if you are at all serious about going off road, go with a high-quality set of boards, maybe even two sets.

Traction Boards
Any traction board is better than no traction board. But you get what you pay for. After looking on Amazon, reading reviews, and watching YouTube videos, I decided on the Recovery Trax from ActionTrax.
ActionTrax offers two board styles: the Standard Recovery Trax or the upgraded Metal Teeth Recovery Trax. The Metal Teeth Recovery Trax is the same as the Standard Recovery Trax with the addition of metal bolts & nuts in place of the standard cleats in the first four rows on each end of the board.
These are some of the reasons I chose ActionTrax:
As well as providing added traction on lose slippery surfaces, traction boards can be used as a ramp, crossing a washout, climbing over rocks or out of a rut, and as a jack base. ActionTrax offers a number of tip and tricks on using their boards on their website, under "Resources".
Both types of boards come is a variety of colors including black, orange, red, tan, green, and blue.
More Technical Stuff.
The Standard ActionTrax weighs 8 pounds and retails for $299 for one pair (2 boards)
The Standard Recovery Trax can be repaired or modified by drilling holes in the first four rows (at each end) through the pre-formed drill bit alignment holes and installing 1/4" bolts with a washer on each side and a nylock nut in place of the teeth.
The Metal Teeth ActionTrax are the same as the Standard Trax but come with bolts and nuts already installed, weight 9 pounds (each) and retails for $399 for one pair (2 boards).
Both styles of boards measure 44.5" long x 12.88" wide. The Standard pair stacked are 3.5" high, and the Metal Teeth pair stacked are 4.25" high.

These are some of the reasons I chose ActionTrax:
- Large hand holds which are helpful when wearing gloves.
- Sawtooth ends for better digging.
- Holes in each end for connecting boards together.
- Have a pliable, flexible feel to them.
- Made in USA, not that I'm against buying products made elsewhere I just like supporting US based companies when possible.
